📖 What are Civic Duties?
As participants in the system of governance, citizens have rights. At the same time, they also have a responsibility to fulfil their duties and obligations towards society and the nation. These duties are referred to as civic duties.
🏛️ Article 51A of the Indian Constitution (1976)
- Respect the Constitution and national values.
- Uphold the ideals and values of the national freedom struggle.
- Protect public property and refrain from damaging it.
- Preserve historical and cultural heritage.
- Protect the environment, wildlife, and natural resources.
- Protect the dignity and rights of women.
- Develop scientific temper and oppose superstitions.
- Promote religious harmony and fraternity.
- Uphold the unity and integrity of the nation.
- Be prepared to serve the nation during times of need.
🏘️ Panchayati Raj Act (1994, 1999)
Every citizen residing within the Grama Panchayat area should fulfil the following responsibilities.
🗳️ Democratic Participation
- Participate in the Gram Sabha.
- Participate in local self-government activities.
- Cooperate in planning, implementation, and evaluation.
💰 Financial Responsibility
- Pay taxes on time and accurately.
- Help prevent tax evasion.
- Support development activities.
🧹 Cleanliness and Public Life
- Do not dump waste in public places.
- Cooperate with cleanliness and sanitation activities.
- Avoid causing public nuisance.
🌳 Environmental Protection
- Protect natural resources.
- Participate in environmental awareness activities.
- Help maintain ecological balance.
🤝 Social Responsibility
- Support social audits.
- Strengthen social unity.
- Oppose fundamentalism and communalism.
🚫 Against Corruption and Maladministration
- Remain vigilant against corruption.
- Report illegal activities.
- Support democratic governance.
🚭 Against Social Evils
- Work against alcoholism and drug abuse.
- Prevent dowry, violence against women, and child labour.
- Protect the rights of disadvantaged sections of society.
🐕 Pet Care and Protection
- Obtain the required licence.
- Ensure timely vaccinations.
- Help ensure public health and safety.
⚖️ Compliance with Laws
- Follow laws and regulations.
- Do not assist or support violations of the law.
- Help maintain public peace and order.

- Uphold gender equality.
- Promote social justice.
- Participate in activities that promote equality.
